Wigton is a busy market town situated in North Cumbria, at the centre of the Solway Plain between the Calderbeck Fells (the northern range of the Lake District Fells) and the Solway Coast. it is situated 12.3 miles south west of Carlisle, 22.4 miles north west of Penrith, 22.7 miles north of Keswick and 15.5 miles east of Cockermouth. Wigton is situated on the A596 Trunk Road between Carlisle and Workington and close to the A595 linking the town to the northern Lakes, Keswick and Cockermouth. The B530 links Wigton to Penrith and Junction 41 of the M6.
There is a train station providing regular services to Carlisle and down the Lake District coast to Workington and Whitehaven.
